Vedic Studies
Ubhaya Vedanta: Tamil Divya Prabhandha and the Sanskrit Vedanta of the Upanishads are both called Ubhaya Vedanta. It is a system developed on the basis of two source books, one in Tamil and the other in Sanskrit. By learning the both one looks at the Supreme Being or Lord Narayana. Or simply the spirituality accepted by Tamil Sri Vaishnavas of South India is Ubhaya Vedanta. Ubhaya Vedanta denotes the equal validity of both the Sanskrit Sruti and the Tamil hymns of the Azhwars. The Divya Prabandhams had been accepted by Srivaishnavas as equivalent to the Sanskrit Vedas as part of regular temple as worship.
Waning Interest in Vedic Studies: An understandable interest in modern education has depleted the Vedic practice and knowledge. Already many shakas are extinct. There has been a reduction in the number of those wanting to study Vedas and it is only a minuscule number of Vedic Scholars still holds significance in any congregation especially among Srivaishnavaites. All the Mataadhipathies and prominent scholars unilaterally feel that the present trend must be curtailed. Our revered Srimad Azhagiyasingar, HH 46th Jeer of Sri Ahobila Math has also expressed similar feelings that the devaluation of learning Vedas and Divya Prabandhams must not go unchallenged.
dual Education: Since there is obvious indifference among students as well as parents, there is possibility if it is offered with secular education, promising the students modern employment opportunities. This dual education is to enable students to study Vedas and Prabhandha and also pursue secular modern education. Sri Sankara Math has already launched imparting this ancient and modern education successfully; so also Madhva Math. With all these higher aspirations, our most revered Srimad Azhagiyasingar, he himself a great Vedic scholar, has directed that Sri Veeraraghavaswamy Devansthanam to earnestly implement the project.
Modern Education: It is proposed to open a Higher Secondary School under CBSC system of education. However constraints like identification of required land, Time frame for completion of Statutory requirements, affiliation formalities with the central Board of Secondary Education and NOC from local government will delay the execution of the project in time. Fortunately we find a like minded personality in Shri N.C.Sridhar, correspondent of R.M.Jain Higher Secondary School, Thiruvallur who has willingly agreed to admit all the students from the Patasala for such a period as may be required by the Devansthanam. Sri Sridhar belongs to a family of ardent devotees of Sri Veeraraghavan and well acquainted with Sri Ahobila Math.
SVD Ubhaya Vedanta Patashala: Devansthanam also intently planned towards the execution of the project. A suitable vacant Land owned by the Temple within Thiruvallur, extending to an area of more than 1 acre has been identified and a comprehensive building plan has been prepared. With the blessings of Srimad Azhagiyasingar, the Boomi Pooja for the construction had been done on 26th Jan 2015. The planned Patasala campus will have the Vedic School, Vedic Students Dormitory, Bojana-shala, Adhyapakar Illams, Prayer halls, Library, indoor games, Heavy duty laundette, servants’ quarters, etc. When completed, the campus can accommodate around 150 students with enough teachers including living quarters etc.
The construction of class rooms and other infra-structure required for the first year to accommodate 30 to 50 students will start soon. Advertisements for the appointment of Principal, admission of students and also appeals inviting generous contributions from Philanthropists will be released very shortly.
